Henry Carl Dowell, son of Spencer and Olive Taylor Dowell, was born September 5, 1936, in Farco, West Virginia. He departed this life Tuesday, May 4, 2021, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, seven months, and fifteen days. On January 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Bobbye June Jobe, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. Bobbye passed away on July 4, 2005. On July 20, 2019, he married Shirley Leonardt who passed away on October 29, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Carl L. Dowell; and three brothers, Clyde, Eugene, and Herbert Dowell. Henry is survived by a daughter, Teresa Moritz, and her husband, Greg, of Towanda, Kansas; two grandchildren, Chelsea Patton, of Benton, Kansas, and Colby Moritz, of Park City, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, six year old, Asa, three year old, Josiah, two year old, Kyndal, twenty month old, Caleb, and six month old, Nolan; two sisters, Virginia Osborne, of Providence, Pennsylvania, and Lois Dowell, of Gray, Tennessee; multiple nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in Pennsylvania where he graduated from high school. At the age of nineteen, he entered the military and served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force for over twenty years. He was trained as an air traffic controller and was stationed in several locations stateside and also in England, Thailand, and South Korea. Once he was honorably discharged, he made his home in the Kansas City, Missouri area and worked as a line supervisor for Amoco Oil Company in Harrisonville, Missouri for several years. After retiring, he and Bobbye traveled across the country in their RV for seven years. They eventually made their home in Lebanon, Missouri in 2003, where Henry had their home built. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting clocks, caring for his lawn, restoring his classic Packard, and searching for antiques. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Henry was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated soldier, a patriotic citizen, and a good friend to many. Funeral services will be Monday, May 10, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. A memorial to the American Cancer Society has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
