Newell Wallace O’Dell
Newell Wallace O’Dell, son of Frank A. and Ruth J. Jordan O’Dell, was born January 28, 1926, near Grovespring, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, February 26, 2010, in his home, near Grovespring, at the age of eighty-four years and twenty-eight days.
On December 26, 1972, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Wolfe, and they have shared the last thirty-seven years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan Stafford; and a sister, Norma Jean Hightower.
Newell is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; two sons, Gary Wolfe, of the State of Wyoming, and Brad Wolfe, of the State of Colorado; two grandchildren, Cody Stafford and Katey Stafford, both of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Lavon O’Dell and his wife, Joyce, Hodgenville, Kentucky, and Jerry O’Dell and his wife, Rose, of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
After he graduated from high school he moved to Colorado where he met and married Pat. They later moved to Springfield, Missouri and in 1980 returned to Grovespring, residing on the family homestead. Throughout the years he worked as a district manager for Singer Sewing Company, and retired with thirty-five years of service.
Newell had professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He was also a longtime member of the Mustangs and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield, Missouri.
He found great pleasure and satisfaction in raising and showing his fox trotter horses. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting with the Brittney and Setter bird dogs he had raised.
Newell was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. . We celebrate his life and accomplishments, and will forever hold dear the memories he created for his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
Funeral services for Mr. O'Dell will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday March 3, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville Missouri.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm untill service time in the Funeral Home Chapel.
