's Obituary
Mabel Irene Rea, daughter of Lee and Hattie Livingston Lightfoot, was born October 20, 1912, near Farragut, Iowa. She departed this life Wednesday, January 11, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, two months, and twenty-one days. On December 23, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harold Eugene Rea, and to this union two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, on February 7, 1991; a daughter, Judy Magnusson; two brothers, Elmer and Sherman; and two sisters, Lois and Ruth. Mabel is survived by a daughter, Linda German, and her husband, Max, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandsons, Greg German, and his wife, Susan, of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Gary German, and his wife, Susan, of Hallsville, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Drew, Katelyn, Sam, and Tom; a brother, Vern Lightfoot, and his wife, Mary, of Farragut, Iowa; a sister, Marjorie Anderson, of Tabor, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised near Farragut, Iowa, and graduated from Shenandoah High School. After she and Harold were married, they made their home on their farm in the Farragut community, and lovingly raised their daughters. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Mabel also worked side by side with her husband in the operation of their farm. Mabel made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. For many years she was very active in her church in Farragut. She grew a large garden each year and enjoyed doing handwork in her spare time. She also liked to pick out walnuts, play cards, and visit with her family and friends. She was a very kind and generous person who loved her family dearly, and was especially close to her grandsons and great-grandchildren. Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006, in the Congregational United Church of Christ in Farragut, IA. Burial will be in the Farragut Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. in Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah, IA. Friends may call at their convenience, Wednesday, January 11, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
