A.D. McCowan(Urbana)'s Obituary
Arnold Duane (A.D.) McCowan, son of John and Beulah (Kimbriel) McCowan, was born on August 16, 1938, in Tulare, California and departed this life on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Facility in Buffalo, Missouri. He was at the time of his passing 84 years, one month, and four days of age.
As a young child A.D. moved to Pahrump, Nevada, and would spend the entirety of his childhood there. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1960 and would faithfully serve his country until 1961. In 1964 he moved to Urbana, Missouri, and there he owned and operated his own trucking company. He later met Nancy Armstrong and they were united in marriage on May 22, 1982, in Ada, Oklahoma. A.D. persuaded that Oklahoma girl to move back to Missouri, and they would have a wonderful marriage of 40 years.
A.D. enjoyed hunting and fishing, but those quickly fell to the wayside to his love of dirt racing. This obsession would cause him to sometimes drive to tracks where he knew nobody just so he could watch the races. It is well-known to everyone that he later passed this obsession down to his grandson Dillon, beginning with the simple purchase of a dirt bike. A.D was onery, fun, and a straightforward person. You knew where he stood on things, and you never had to guess.
A.D. was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Evans. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McCowan; three children, Arnie McCowan, Jr., Shonnie Dansby & husband Tom, and Charlie McCowan & wife Mindy; one brother, Kim McCowan; seven grandchildren, Dillon McCowan, Devin McCowan, Katie Rowerton, Josh Dansby, Alyssa Mayberry, Heather Harris, and Breanna McCowan; several greatgrandchildren, and with more on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
