Alford Huckaby's Obituary
Alford Russell Huckaby, son of Clifford and Ruth Webb Huckaby, was born October 6, 1936, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, April 14, 2011, in the Dove Senior Citizens Home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four years, six months, and eight days.
In 1960, he was united in marriage to Bernadine Gregory, and they shared forty-four years before her passing on December 8, 2004.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Huckaby.
Alford is survived by a son, Paul Huckaby, and his wife, Diana, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kory Huckaby, and his wife, Dhevy, Kasandra Collar, and her husband, David, and John Vestal, Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Kaylie and Breanna; two brothers, Lorene Huckaby, and his wife, Sue, of Conway, Missouri, and Sam Huckaby, and his wife, Pam, of Sarcoxie, Missouri; four sisters, Donna Jones, and her husband, Bob, and Geraldine Huckaby, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Susie Hill, and her husband, Jackie, of Stoutland, Missouri, and Loberta ?Bert? Mathis, and her husband, James, of Ludowici, Georgia; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Competition community and attended Franklin School. After he and Bernadine were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their son. Throughout the years, Alford worked as a truck driver, and was employed by Smithco Transport Company, Empire Gas Corporation, and Willard Asphalt Company.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing the guitar and working on old cars, particularly his 1973 Grand Prix. He liked having his family and friends to his home. His family was very important to him, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Alford was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends.
