She had five older brothers; Garnet, Russell, Hubert, Ted, and Erman. In addition to her parents and brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Raymond J Butler, who passed away in 2007, and by an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn, in 1956.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sue Ellen Butler Dodd, and son-in-law, Robert Dodd, of Gambrills, Maryland, as well as two sisters-in-law, Peggy Dennis of Mansfield, Missouri and Marie Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri. A brother-in-law, Ralph Butler and his wife Cathy of Flemington, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors who became family.
Alice graduated from Mansfield High School and attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri. She was an elementary school teacher early in life, and later worked for the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Library in Kansas City.
Alice was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed counted cross stitch and other handiwork until her eyesight began to fail. She made many beautiful items for family and friends and she took great pride in sharing her talents with others.
Her great joys were her family and friends and the many children who came to love her as a surrogate mother and grandmother. Alice was very caring person and had a remarkable way of making people feel special. She always made it a point to send a card to family and friends to celebrate their birthday or any other milestone in their life. She always took the time to choose the perfect card to make you feel special. Raymond would take her to the Hallmark store and wait in the car, because he knew she was going to be there for a while.
Alice took deep comfort in her faith, and was a longtime member of Armour Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Services for Alice Butler will be at 10:30 am Saturday, January 21, 2012 in the Holman Howe Chapel, Mansfield, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Cemetery under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Homes, Mansfield, Missouri.
