Alice Carr (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mrs. Alice Rose Melton Carr, age 88 of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Tuesday evening, August 7, 2012 at Lake Stockton Healthcare in Stockton, Missouri.
She was born September 16, 1923 in Cape Fair, Missouri, the daughter of Oran Ancil Melton and Nellie (Thomas) Melton.
Alice attended Cape Fair Grade School and graduated as Valedictorian from Crane High School, the class of 1941. She received a scholarship for one year from Southwest Missouri State. She graduated from MU in Columbia in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in vocational home economics. She was a member of honorary academic societies, in home economics, Pi Delta Nu in science and Phi Lamda Theta in education. She taught school in Cabool and Republic, Missouri.
On June 8, 1947 she married the love of her life for over 65 years, Orville Jay Carr in Cape Fair, Missouri.
Alice and her husband lived in Republic, Warrensburg, Doniphan and Springfield, Missouri before moving to Bolivar in 1962. Alice taught High School in Stockton for one year, then taught in Bolivar until her retirement in 1982. She was still a very active member of the retired teachers’ organizations as well as World Bible School. After retirement she was a very active member of the Bolivar Church Of Christ. She loved to cook, garden, sew and quilt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Nellie Melton, two sons, Marvin in September 1991 and Lowell in March 2004, her sister, Ora Nell Miekley in November 1994, and a brother, Hubert Melton in June of 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Jay Carr of Stockton, Missouri, one son, Glenn and his wife Beth of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and six grandchildren, Justin Dick, Rachel Mynes, William Carr, Hannah Carr, Samuel Carr and Anthony Carr.
