Alma R. Hardy's Obituary
Alma Rebecca Hardy, daughter of James Mathew and Vadie Rogers Keen, was born March 25, 1919, in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, September 22, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, five months, and twenty-seven days. In 1933, she was united in marriage to Farmer J. Lewis, and to this union one son was born. Farmer preceded her in death. On May 5, 1962, she was married to Richard H. “Dick” Hardy, and together they shared forty years before his passing on May 14, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Della Sadler; two brothers, Robert and Freeman Keen; and a sister, Mary Baldwin. Alma is survived by a son, Vince Lewis, and his wife, June, of Falcon, Missouri; two grandsons, Kyle Sadler, of Springfield, Missouri, and Kerry Sadler, of Mount Vernon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Nyla Kay Mahan, of Springfield, Missouri; a great-granddaughter, Haley N. Mahan, of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Willard Keen, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Phillip Keen, of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, and was raised in the Crossroads community, near Lebanon. Early in her life she worked at the Rice Stix Factory for a few years. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Alma worked for Medley Pharmacy for several years. She then made her home in California for twenty years and worked for a Walnut Bowl Store. She later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma for awhile and then made her home in Springfield for the last twenty years. Alma made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was raised in the Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed doing ceramics and other craft projects, and going to garage sales. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having her family around her as often as possible. She possessed a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and telling funny stories. Alma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
