She was born and raised as the fourth of eleven children on their family farm near Lead Mine. At the age of twelve, her family moved to Lebanon and Alma graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1933. She was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked at one of the bigger stores in Lebanon where she did the window in the ladies’ ready to wear section. Later, after Chester passed away, she went to work for the Wal Mart store in Lebanon and managed the ladies’ clothing section for a number of years. She eventually quit working to travel with her husband, Lon.
Alma made her profession of faith in Christ at the age of eighteen at a revival at the Oakland Baptist Church. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon for over fifty years, where she was treasurer of her Sunday school class for many years and always sang in the choir.
