Alma Lorraine York (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Alma Lorraine Cook York, daughter of William Henry and Effie Green Cook, was born September 15, 1918, near Winnipeg, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-seven years, two months, and nine days.
On April 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Otis H. York, and to this union one daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otis, on February 20, 1983; a daughter, Barbara York Barton; four brothers, Raymond, George, C. Leland, and Alva Cook; and a sister, Viola Turner.
Alma is survived by a granddaughter, Stacy Patterson, and her husband, Arden, of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-granddaughters, Genevieve, Katherine, Isabella, and Vivienne Patterson; two nieces, Elizabeth Schneider, and Evelyn Cook; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Winnipeg community where she received her education. After she and Otis were married, they made their home on the Big Piney River in Pulaski County, and lovingly raised their daughter. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Alma worked as a cook in the Bloodland School for several years. She also raised cattle and chickens and helped in the operation of the farm. Through the years, Alma seemed to draw her strength from the land where she lived for most of her life.
Alma followed the Christian faith throughout her life.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, hunting, and gardening. She also was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making quilts.
Alma was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-seven years.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Palace Cemetery Fund and left at the funeral home.
