Alpha Shockly's Obituary
Alpha O. Shockley, daughter of Columbus and Annie Jones Medley, was born July 4, 1910 near Buffalo, Missouri. She departed this life, Friday, November 16, 2007 in St. John’s Hospital, Lebanon, Missouri at the age of ninety-seven years, four months, and twelve days. On November 9, 1946, Alpha was united in marriage to Edward L. Shockley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, on December 14, 2003; as well as five brothers, Arlie Medley, Delmar Medley, Raymond Medley, Harley Medley and Lowell Medley; a son, Bill Miller; a daughter-in law, Idabelle Miller; a son-in-law, Don Hemphill; and a grandson, Eddie Miller. Alpha is survived by two sons, Donald Miller and his wife, Jerry, of Ozark, Missouri, and Dencil Miller and his wife, Eva, of Jefferson City, Missouri; one daughter, Alberta Hemphill, of Lebanon, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, thirty-eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other family and friends. Alpha spent most of her early years in Dallas County and moved to Lebanon when she was a young lady. Early in life, she spent time working at Portland Café and Beard’s Laundry. Alpha worked through the years as a homemaker. Earlier in her life, she had attended the Bailey Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and later attended the Taylor Avenue Church of God. Alpha loved spending time with her family and visiting with her friends. She was a good story teller who had a “clear memory” of years past, and was known for her good sense of humor. Alpha was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 - 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
