Alta Blattel's Obituary
Alta P. Blattel, daughter of Max and Nancy Ann Rogers Winsel, was born May 20, 1923, near Lebanon, in Camden County, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, November 18, 2008, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, five months, and twenty-eight days. On June 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Theon Blattel, and to this union five daughters and three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theon, on April 14, 1974; a daughter, Joann Blattel; a great-granddaughter, Bridget Lander; and two sisters, Mary M. Knight, and Pearl Devore. Alta is survived by four daughters, Pauline Thomas, Shirley Blue, and her husband, Bud, Mary Bruhn, and Louetta Cromer, and her husband, Bud, all of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, Wayne Blattel, and his wife, Lois, of Eldridge, Missouri, Billy Blattel, and his wife, Janie, and Larry Blattel, and his wife, Vickie, all of Lebanon, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; a number of great-great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Burnes Devore, and Othel Knight, Jr., both of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Laclede County, Missouri. After she and Theon were married, they made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Alta was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. For the last several years she had enjoyed living in Vernon Heights in Lebanon. Alta was saved early in her life and was baptized into the Baptist faith in the Bennett Spring. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing and was an avid bird watcher. She also liked riding with her granddaughter on her mini-bike. She was somewhat of a perfectionist and liked having everything done correctly and neatly. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Alta was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday November 21, 2008 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. Burial in Mt. Rose Memorial Park. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Prosperine Cemetery care fund.
