Alva Lavern Barr (Hartville)'s Obituary
Alva Lavern Barr was born November 22, 1934, near Hartville, Missouri, the first child of Raymond and Mildred (Long) Barr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his only child, David; two sister, Joella Barr Garland and Wilma Barr Myers, and Wilma’s husband, John Myers; two brothers, Carl Barr and Leonard Barr. He is survived by his wife, Nadine, of 58 years; a daughter-in-law, Linda Barr; brothers-in-law, Leonard Dale Garland of Hartville and Charles Nelson of Kansas City; sisters-in-law, Freda Barr of Hartville and Ruby Johnson of Kansas City; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Alva was raised on a dairy farm. He loved the work and was eager to help his father and help his family. At about age 23, he began working in Springfield at what became Foremost Dairy, where he remained employed for 19 ½ years. June 1, 1958, he married Nadine Johnson. In 1976, he returned to Hartville and operated a dairy farm for the next 18 years.
Alva was, throughout his life, a kind, loving man. Alva accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He was ordained as deacon in 1982. He served both Little Creek Baptist Church and First Baptist Church at Hartville as deacon and song leader. He loved going to church, reading his Bible, singing, whistling and visiting with family and friends. He was a wonderful family member as a loving son, brother, husband and father. He enjoyed sharing and recalling the good times and funny happenings with his family and friends.
