Alvena "Beanie" Kirkham's Obituary
Alvena Eleanora “Beanie” Kirkham, daughter of William Cecil and Martha Ann (Smith) Ballard was born October 27, 1923 in Anderson, Indiana. She departed this life Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, five months, and eleven days.
On May 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Wren Edwin Kirkham and to this union two sons were born. They spent almost fifty-two years wonderful years together before his passing on April 13, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Warren Kirkham; and a brother, Paul Ballard.
Beanie is survived by a son, Glenn Kirkham, of Seymour, Missouri; four grandchildren, Mike, Bill, Robert and his wife, Kathy, and Sandy; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Tyler; a brother, Vernon Ballard and his wife, Gloria, of Cannon City, Colorado; a sister, Ginny Moorman, of Anderson, Indiana; a number of nieces and nephews; a well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She grew up in Indiana and then her family lived in several locations while her father worked in share-cropping. After her marriage to Wren, they eventually moved to the Seymour, Missouri area to make their home on the farm. She loved being a farm wife and homemaker to her family and later in life she went to the Seymour Beauty School to be a beautician.
In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and cooking for her family and friends. She was a great cook and never used printed recipes, cooking only from memory. Beanie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
Graveside Services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 12, 2010 in The Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Seymour, Missouri.
