Alvin "Duke" Dunbar (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Alvin L. “Duke” Dunbar, son of Edgar Alvin and Lula Valletta Wood Dunbar, was born May 30, 1936 in Boulder, Colorado and departed this life on Monday, June 9, 2014 in Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy-eight years and nine days.
On December 5, 1958 he was united in marriage to Loretta Faye Brooke and to this union two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeff, brother, Frank, two sisters, Jean and Sylvia.
“Duke” is survived by his wife, Faye of the home; son, Russell Dunbar and his wife Ruth of Mansfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Lindsey, Candace and Drew; five great-grandchildren, Kylar, Braelyn, Natalie, Lane and Brooklyn; brother, Ralph Dunbar and his wife, Margo of Mansfield, Missouri; several nieces, nephews other relatives and many, many friends.
He was born and raised in Colorado and after being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1957 he moved to California. After he and Faye were married they moved back to Colorado. In 1966 they moved to Mansfield. “Duke” was a journeyman pipefitter/plumber and his job with Chicago Bridge and Iron took him to many places around the country, building water towers. His last job was working at Hutchens Industries in Mansfield, where he worked for 22 years before retiring.
He attended Mansfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, was member of the Mansfield Lodge #543 A.F & A.M., the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield and Clarence King Post #128 of the American Legion.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, arrowhead collecting and riding motorcycles.
“Duke” was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will always cherish all of the special times we had together.
