Alvin Marlin's Obituary
Alvin Joseph “A.J.” Marlin, son of A.H. “Bud” and Jane Bennett Marlin, was born on October 1, 1923, in Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life March 2, 2007, in Manor at Elfindale, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, five months, and one day, after a long illness. On October 12, 1951 he was united in marriage to Geneve Swearengin in Seymour, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward M. Marlin. Alvin is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Geneve, of the home; a special niece, Elizabeth “Libby” Webb, and her husband, Mike, and their children, Christopher and Katie, of Yorktown, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Marlin, Sherman, Illinois; a nephew, Kim Plaster, and his wife, Jeanette, and their children, Jason and Aaron, of Sherman, Illinois; a niece, Catherine Collins, and her husband, Jeffrey, and their family, of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School in 1941. He served his country honorably during World War II as a member of the 17th and 82nd Airborne Division as a glider man and paratrooper in the European Theater Operation. After being honorably discharged, he owned and operated a livestock feed and milling business in Seymour, until his retirement. Then in 1970, he and Geneve moved to Springfield to make their home. Alvin had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seymour since 1936. He was a lifetime member of the 17th and 82nd Airborne Division, the Disabled American Veterans, and was a fifty-year member of the Wilson-Alexander American Legion Post #306, in Seymour. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, visiting with friends, and loved to travel as long as his health would permit. Alvin was a kind and loving husband, uncle, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Memorials to the Seymour First Baptist Church or the University Heights Baptist Church, in Springfield, may be made through the funeral home.
