Andrea Maynard (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Andrea P. Maynard, daughter of Richard and Virginia Plato Ploss, was born June 4, 1941, in Little Falls, New York. She departed this life Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the age of seventy-seven years, eight months, and thirteen days.
On January 26, 1963, she was united in marriage to William C. Maynard, and to this union three sons and one daughter were born.
Andrea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William C. (2002) and two sons, David Richard (1986) and William Joseph (2007).
Andrea is survived by her son, Daniel Maynard and his wife Maria of Charlton, NY; her daughter Alison McCaslin and her husband Zane of Phillipsburg, Missouri; and her Son-in-Law, Todd Best of Circleville, NY. She also has nine grandchildren Ricky, Kayla, Sarah, Deandra, Brianna, Kerri, Danny, Robert, and Mason; four great-grandchildren; Isabella, Anthony, Charli and Franki; Three brothers; Richard Ploss and his wife Joyce, Gerald Ploss and his wife Donna and Bradley Ploss and his wife Lisa all of Dolgeville, NY. She also had ten very special nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and close friends.
Andrea was a life-long resident of New York until moving to Missouri in 2018 to be near her daughter. She was the valedictorian of her Senior class in Stratford, NY and went on to receive an advanced degree from Utica College of Syracuse University which led her to a long career as a teacher. She began as a Fourth Grade teacher at Oppenheim-Ephratah, then went on to teach high school sciences at OECS and later served as a curriculum coordinator. She also taught at Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam and at Herkimer County BOCES in alternative education. She was a passionate and committed teacher who will be fondly remembered and loved by many former students, colleagues, and administrators.
She and William lovingly raised their four children in Broadalbin, NY. In September of 2018, Andrea moved to the Phillipsburg, Missouri area to be near her daughter Alison and her family.
Andrea enjoyed being outdoors where her favorite activities were hiking, exploring wild life, gardening, tree-hugging, golf, and other various sports. She loved to read and volunteered at local libraries in both Wells and Broadalbin. She was a member of an adult marching band and played several instruments. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Andrea was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Services for Andrea Maynard will be in Johnston, New York.
