Angie Flanagan's Obituary
Angie Mae Flanagan, daughter of Joseph Franklin and Bonnie (Mullen) Goodwin, was born July 17, 1926 in Spiro, Oklahoma. She departed this life Saturday, June 30, 2007 in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri at the age of eighty-years, eleven months and thirteen days. On November 23, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Edward Flanagan and to this union four children were born. Together they shared forty-one years until John’s passing on June 3, 1987. Angie was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Goodwin, her beloved mother-in-law, Ruth Flanagan, her father-in-law, James Flanagan, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by her four children, Katherine Flanagan, of Seymour, Missouri, Timothy Flanagan and his wife, Janet, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Patrick Flanagan, of Seymour, Missouri, and Thomas Flanagan and his wife, LaVetta, of Seymour, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Ryan, Anthony, Daniel, Sondra, Patricia and Jeremy Flanagan, Christa VanKleek, and Kellee Chaplain; seven great-grandchildren, Brett, Lee, Sarah, Kelsey, Austin, Noah and Lora; many nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Angie worked as a migrant farm worker in Oklahoma for most of her childhood until moving to California at the age of fourteen. It was there where she started her career in food service, working as a waitress in local restaurants. While in California, she met and married John and they made their home in various locations during John’s U.S. Navy career until moving to the Seymour, Missouri area to make their permanent home in 1973. After moving to Seymour, John and Angie owned and operated John and Angie’s Café for ten years, and was well known for her award winning apple pies. She was a past Worthy Matron in Chapter #144 Order of the Eastern Star in Seymour, and was very active in the Seymour Senior Citizen Center, Seymour Lion’s Club, VFW Post # 1502, and area blood drives. She was also a member of the Seymour United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, cooking for her family and friends, knitting and crocheting as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren. Angie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in the Seymour United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Spring National Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. Easter Star Service begins at 7:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorials to Community Hospcies may be made through the funeral home.
