Anna Krudwig Russell's Obituary
Anna Adaline Krudwig Russell, daughter of John and Selma Larson Palmer, was born July 10, 1911, in St. Louis, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Primrose Place, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-four years, ten months, and twenty-eight days. On March 28, 1932, she was united in marriage to Paul W. Krudwig, and to this union three sons were born. Anna and Paul shared thirty-nine years together before his passing on May 13, 1971. On July 10, 1973, she married Dougal Russell, Jr., and they shared twenty-three years before his passing on October 10, 1995. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, John Krudwig; a great-granddaughter, Liberty Anna Krudwig; a brother, Carl; and three sisters, Esther, Dorothy, and Ellen. Anna is survived by three sons, Rev. William C. “Bill” Krudwig, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, John J. “Jack” Krudwig, of Canton, Connecticut, and Lawrence J. “Larry” Krudwig, of Springfield, Missouri; a stepson, Richard Russell, of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Michael Krudwig, Kevin Krudwig, Laura Annonson, Paula Butrym, David Krudwig, Aaron Krudwig, Silvia Hole, and Eliu Perez; eleven great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; a sister, Ruth Turner, of Springfield, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She was born the second of six children into the Palmer family. Her father was an auto mechanic and moved his family from St. Louis, to new businesses in Owensville, to Dixon, and finally to Lebanon, where Anna graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1930. During her school years in both Dixon and Lebanon she played in the band and orchestra, and was a member of the women’s basketball team, Girl Scouts, and was involved in theatrical productions and choral groups. Following her graduation she worked for Casey’s Clothing Store for a few years Three days after Anna and Paul were married, they moved into their one and only home in Lebanon, which Anna maintained as her residence until the last year. Throughout her life, Anna was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Her backyard was the playground for the children of many families and Paul had created a yard full of playground equipment, some of which is in useable condition today. Anna had recently made her home in Christian Healthcare South in Lebanon and Primrose Place in Springfield. Anna was an active member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lebanon During World War II and the Korean War, she was supportive of the U.S.O. programs. She was a member of the Lebanon Country Club and was an avid golfer for many years. During the winter months she was on more than one bowling team, and all year long enjoyed playing Contract Bridge, which was her passion, and helped keep her mind sharp. She was a great cook, and could handle creations that ranged from simple and small to the complex and large family and church and community functions. Her yard was the scene of many ice cream socials to raise funds for the church, and for reunions for family and friends. Many family members enjoy items reflecting Anna’s artistic talents such as quilts, clothing, and jewelry Christmas trees. She also brightened several weddings and other events with her floral centerpieces and table decorations. Anna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Calvery (Catholic) Cemetery. The Rosary Service will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. followed by visitation. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to St. Frances DeSales Catholic Church or Community Hospice of America may be made through the funeral home.
