Ansell Raney's Obituary
Ansell Irvin Raney, son of Walter Brady and Odessa Leann Williams Raney, was born August 13, 1920, in Fort Worth, Texas. He departed this life Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in his home, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, nine months, and three days. On August 29, 1941, in Weatherford, Texas, he was united in marriage to Betty Frances Austin, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol Raney; and two brothers, Olen Brady and Alfred Raney. Ansell is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Betty, of the home; a son, Robert Earl Raney, and his wife, Ella, of Lumberton, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Michelle Sanders, and her husband, Dan, of Leawood, Kansas, Shannon Strickland, and her husband, Steve, and Shawn Raney, and his wife, Trinita, all of Lumberton, North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Garett Sanders, Brooke Strickland, and Jayson and Emily Madison Raney; a brother, Harry Raney, and his wife, Mary Helen, of Livingston, Texas; a sister, Betty Jo Ertl, and her husband, Walter, of Fort Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from Paschal High School before attending the University of Texas in Houston. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II, and earned various medals and awards. He and Betty made their home in the Fort Worth area and lovingly raised their family. Ansell worked for Phillips 66 Petroleum Company as a safety director and traveled to many locations around the world during his thirty years of service to the company. He also was a member of the National Safety Council and received a Certificate of Recognition of service from their Chemical Division. He and Betty retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1978, and then moved to Lee’s Summit a few years ago. Ansell was baptized in a creek in Randon, Texas as a young man, and later attended church with his wife after moving to Missouri. He was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge. In his spare time he enjoyed doing woodworking projects, and had made many Grandfather and wall clocks. He also had created several pieces of stained glass. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ansell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006, in the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 - 7:00 p.m. in the Lucas Funeral Home, Ft. Worth, TX. Services are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
