Arnold Day (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Robert Arnold Day, son of Charley Robert and Carmen Trent Day, was born May 4, 1939 in Rome, Missouri and departed this life on May 10, 2016 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy-seven years and six days.
On December 23, 1960 he was united in marriage to Carol Hutchison and to this union three children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Nadine Haskins, and son, Mike Day.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; son, Steve Day and wife, Jean, of Rolla, Missouri; daughter, Stephanie Gamble and husband, Kris, of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Amanda Miller and husband, Todd, of Killeen, Texas, Caitlin Stevens and husband, Mark, of South Bend, Indiana, Erin Day of Wichita, Kansas, Seth Day of Springfield, Missouri, Lucas Day of Rolla, Missouri, Ian and Isabel Gamble of Springfield, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Danny, Claire and Charlie Miller all of Killeen, Texas; daughter-in-law, Annelise Day of Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Barbara Rowe and a brother, Harold Day both of Ava, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
He was raised in Douglas County and graduated from Ava High School in the Class of 1957. After he and Carol were married they made their home in the Ava area before moving to Mansfield in 1965. He worked in the maintenance department at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield for eighteen years. He then worked for Emerson Electric before retiring in 1996.
Arnold made a profession of faith in Christ at the age of 23. He was an ordained Freewill Baptist minister serving churches in Douglas and Wright counties and most recently had the honor of officiating at his granddaughter, Amanda’s wedding.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an accomplished woodworker and furniture restorer.
Arnold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, pastor and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will always cherish the wonderful memories we had with him.
