Arnold Johnson's Obituary
Arnold Franklin Johnson, son of Joseph and Minnie Carlsen Johnson, was born April 21, 1927, in Gowrie, Iowa. He departed this life Thursday, July 16, 2009, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, two months, and twenty-five days. On August 9, 1948, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Maxine June Thomas, and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristie Tilden; two brothers; and four sisters. Arnold is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Maxine, of the home; a daughter, Marsha Carpenter, and her husband, Herbert, of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Franze, Kimberly Noel, Leanna Carpenter, Angela Lee, Michelle Burrell, Tessa McGregor, and Jon Tyler Routh; seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Spencer, and Abigail Montgomery, Colton and Anakin Lee, Theodore Noel, and Luke Franze; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Gowrie, Iowa area and then served in the United States Army during World War II. Once he and Maxine were married, they made their home in the Ames, Iowa area and lovingly raised their daughters. Arnold worked as an animal caretaker for the National Animal Disease Laboratory in Ames, Iowa for over twenty years, retiring in 1989. Soon after retiring, he and Maxine moved to Lebanon, Missouri, where they made their home. They also enjoyed spending some of their winter months in Mission, Texas. Arnold had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mission Covenant Church in Dayton, Iowa. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and camping. His family was very dear to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arnold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a kind and caring neighbor and friend.
