Arthur Louis Lorenz (Seymour)'s Obituary
Arthur Louis Lorenz, son of Walter and Helen (Bowers) Lorenz, was born in Seymour, Missouri, on February 1st, 1940. He departed this life Thursday, November 28th, 2013, in his home near Seymour at the age of seventy- three years, nine months and twenty-seven days, with his family by his side.
Arthur and Patricia (Mayfield) Lorenz were united in marriage on August 4th, 1961, and to this union one son was born. Arthur attended all 12 years of school at Seymour and graduated in 1957. His lifetime career was farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his in-laws, a niece and nephew, several uncles, aunts and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat, along with one son, Chris, and his wife Toni of Marshfield. Two grandchildren also survive him: Karisa Wright and husband Josh of Seymour, and Kelby Lorenz of Marshfield. There are two sisters, Carol Kleier and husband Jerry of Seymour, and Ruth Williams and husband Alba of Springfield, along with sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Charles Mahaffey of Springfield, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins along with many friends and family.
Arthur was a man of great faith who loved God and sought to follow Him in everything he did. He frequently enjoyed the preaching of Dr. Charles Stanley, along with local ministers. He spent time studying God’s Word before bed every night. He always felt closest to God while working in his fields and often had his most intimate talks with Him at this time. He was an ordained deacon, serving at Seymour and Diggins Baptist Churches.
A tough taskmaster, Arthur gave his best and expected you to give your best at whatever you were doing. He served on both the Seymour School Board and the Federal Land Bank Board for several years. He was also in the Army Reserves for several years. Arthur felt that God had blessed him with land and livestock, so he strived to give them daily care with his very best, always willing to go the extra mile. Arthur always tried to produce quality feed for the animals in his care and would daily check the health of his animals.
For many years, Arthur, Pat, and Chris milked and had a top herd of registered Holsteins, with one of these cows making a state milk production record and several classified as excellent in body conformation. This herd was dispersed on April 26th, 1985, with cows going to several states; at this time they started a herd of stock cows. Arthur was a good steward of his land, always wanting to leave it in a better condition than before.
Along with cattle, Arthur also developed a passion for horses in his adult years, and spent hours training and showing his cutting horses. He also enjoyed the daily interaction with his horses and seeing to their care. He traveled many miles to cutting horse shows where he made many friends and wonderful memories. He raised and trained one particular palomino mare, Miss Doc’s Pistol, that he felt was God’s special once-in-a-lifetime gift for him.
If Karisa and Kelby were with him doing the morning chores, when finished they loaded up in the old farm truck and headed to the quick stop for a pop and treat. Also, in the fall before school started, Arthur would take a day and he and Chris would go to a machinery dealership and look at farm equipment together.
We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure each moment spent with him. We will greatly miss Arthur, but we know he is in a better place with his Lord and Savior. We take comfort knowing that we will meet him and the many loved ones who have gone home before him, again someday.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in Arthur’s honor to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home and Season’s Hospice.
