Arthur Robertson's Obituary
Arthur Sherman Robertson, son of Charles George and Geritha L. Mizell Robertson, was born December 7, 1910, on the family farm near Grovespring, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Hartville Care Center, in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of ninety-seven years, eight months and two days. On July 24, 1936, he was united in marriage to Wilma Vear Martin, who preceded him in death on November 17, 1991. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Leonard House; eight brothers, Archie, Jimmy, Elsey, Jesse, Basil, Oren, Omar and Walter Robertson; and two sisters, Ollie Hightower and Martha Widner. Arthur is survived by his children, Velta House, of Grovespring, Missouri, Cathern Long, and husband, Don, of Hartville, Missouri, Rollie Robertson and wife, Beverly, of Grovespring, Missouri and Dwaine Robertson and wife, Vickie, of Rogersville, Missouri; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews including his nephew and hunting buddy, Truel Robertson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Reared in the Grovespring community, he attended the Durbin School. When he was ten years old, the family packed up two covered wagons and set out for Kellyville, Oklahoma, southwest of Tulsa, where they farmed. In the fall of 1923 they returned to their home. As a young man, Arthur went West and worked as a grape picker and a sheep herder. He later met and married Wilma, spending their lives on the farm raising their family. Arthur had professed his faith in Christ and was baptized. He was a longtime member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church. His family was very precious to him and he loved being with them. In his spare time he enjoyed deer and coyote hunting, and caring for his fox trotters. Arthur was a loving husband, father, granddad, great-granddad, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be greatly missed and will forever live in our hearts. We will treasure the memories he created for his family and many friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tues August 12, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will be in the Shaddy Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 pm under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Hartville, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Shaddy Cemetery and the Durbin cemetery. Donations may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
