Arthur Stevens' Obituary
Arthur Lee Stevens, age 86, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011 at Citizen?s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri after a sudden heart attack.
He was born November 30, 1924 in Bolivar, Missouri to Sam Stevens and Maude (Woody) Stevens.
On June 20, 1948 he married Naomi C. Niccum in Bolivar, Missouri.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Arthur graduated from SBU, SMS and received his Masters Degree at Pittsburg State. He work and received many hours working towards his doctorate degree.
Arthur owned a cabinet shop in Bolivar for 12 years, and retired after 25 years teaching Industrial Education at Bolivar High School. He also owned a sharpening business for 18 years. He was a member, and past Deacon, of the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar and a member of the Gideon?s International since their origin came into the Bolivar area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son; Larry Lee Stevens.
Arthur is survived by his wife; Naomi C. Stevens of the home, one daughter; Arletta Jones and her husband Bob of Brighton, Missouri, one sister; Willetta Barger of Weaubleau, Missouri, a half brother; Billie Sam Stevens, two half sisters; Lois Rodgers, and Mary Rachel Black, three grandchildren, Steven Greer and his wife Sara, Stephanie House and her husband Jonathan, Kelly Parson and his wife Tara, and seven great grandchildren, Ashton, Peyton, David, Alicia, Michaela, Benjamin and Isabella.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-5:00pm Sunday afternoon at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, May 16, 2011 at the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Reverend Gary Ankrom and Reverend Ken Robinson officiating under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri. Musical selections will be ?Daddy?s Hands? and ?It Is Well With My Soul? by a quartet consisting of Greg Ankrom, Russ Batten, Tony Hitchcock and Rod Hoover. The song ?How Great Thou Art? will be sung by the congregation. Military Honors will be provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri following the memorial service at the church. Private Inurnment of Arthur?s cremains will take place at a later date in the Missouri Veteran?s Cemetery just South of Springfield, Missouri.
