Barbara June Carr (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Barbara “Pat” June Carr, daughter of John and Marguerite Hatfield Carter, was born January 27, 1925, in Anthony, Kansas. She departed this life Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in Northridge Place, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, eleven months, and two days.
On October 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Kenneth Carr, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-five years, Kenneth, on May 31, 1999; a granddaughter, Elisha Kathryn Knight; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Richard Frazee.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Ed Carr, and his wife, Becki, and Jeff Carr, and his wife, Janet, all of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Kenise Knight, and her husband, Randy, of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Julianne Knight Gray, and her husband, Jared, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Lara Knight Gordon, and her husband, Philip, of Bay Shore, New York, Nathan Carr, and his wife, Julie, John Carr, and his wife, Rachel, Jared Carr, and his wife, Tara, and Joe Carr, and his wife, Kristy, all of Lebanon, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Lisa Clock, and her husband, Mike, of Dallas, Texas, and Michael Breakfield, and his wife, April, of San Antonio, Texas; ten great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, John Carter, and his wife, Dorothy, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born in Kansas and was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Will Rogers High School. She and Kenneth were married in Lebanon, Missouri in 1943. During his service in the Marine Corps, they shared a special code in their correspondence enabling her to always know where he was located during World War II. After Kenneth was honorably discharged from the military, he and Barbara made their home in Oklahoma, where they owned a coal mine for several years. They moved to Lebanon in 1960 and co-founded Carmeco, Inc. in 1970. Barbara served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board for a number of years, and kept a keen interest in the business at all times. She was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and family throughout the years. Following Kenneth’s tragic work accident, Barbara took excellent care of Kenneth and became not only his wife, but his caregiver and aide for the rest of his life.
Barbara had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of First Christian Church in Lebanon, where she enjoyed the fellowship offered by the congregation.
She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed sewing, often making many of her own and her families’ clothing. Barbara took great pride in her appearance and had modeled for various ladies clothing stores over the years. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs. She and Kenneth loved to travel and had visited many foreign countries. They were huge fans of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Team and took several cruises with the team through the years. She was a very determined woman who was always steadfast in her convictions. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that she will be fondly remembered as a beautiful and classy lady. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and many friends.
