Barbara Coday's Obituary
Barbara A. Coday, daughter of Ivan Roy and Olga Leone (Raney) Helsley, was born December 16, 1928, in Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, July 27, 2010, in her home, in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years; seven months and eleven days.
On April 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to M.C. Coday, and to this union two daughters were born. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, M.B. Helsley; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Mable Coday; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Blanche Coday, Duke and Vivian Coday, Steve and Hazel Jones, Reed Coday, Effie Lea Walling, Daniel Coday, Don and Jean Rippee, and an infant brother-in-law.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Terre Boyer and her husband, Glen, of Hartville, Missouri, Kathy Shockley and her husband, Ron, of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Lance Boyer and his wife, Britany, of Hartville, Luke Boyer and his wife, Somer, of West Plains, Grant Boyer and his wife, Sara, of Forsyth, Charlie Shockley, of Lebanon, Ryan Shockley, of Lebanon, and Katelynne Roberts and her husband, Derrick, of Springfield; seven great-grandchildren, Madelynne, Isaac, Ella, Andrew, Ian, Allie and Ben Boyer, and greatly anticipating the arrival of Noah Boyer in a few weeks; three sisters-in-law, Vera Helsley, of Hartville, Juanita Coday, of Lebanon, and Joyce Coday, of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Ralph Walling, of Springfield; a number of nieces and nephews; two very special friends, Wilda Cogdill and Helen Wade; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and reared in Hartville and graduated from Hartville High School in the Class of 1946. She and M.C. were married and they moved to Kansas City for a year, then returned to Hartville where they resided throughout the rest of their life. Barbara went to work at the Wright County Court House and became the Deputy Clerk for the Wright County Clerks Office, where she worked for forty years, retiring in 1990. All the time caring for and raising her family.
Barbara had professed her faith in Christ, and attended the First Baptist Church in earlier years. She centered her life around her family, and greatly enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her.
She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of the clothes for the girls when they were younger, and helping the New Borns in Need, making quilts. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement doing counted cross stitch, quilting and she lived for college basketball.
Barbara was a loving mom; a devoted grandma and great-grandma; a treasured sister-in-law; a cherished aunt; and trusted neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed and will live on in our hearts forever.
