Barbara Crowell (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Barbara Lee Crowell, daughter of Elmer and Doris Elrod Newcomb, was born December 14, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, March 11, 2019, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, two months, and twenty-eight days.
On June 2, 1955, she was united in marriage to Howard Crowell, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, in 2014; a son, Martin Crowell; and a sister, Eleanor.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Karla Nelson, and her husband, Mike, of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Justin, Samantha, Madalyn, Amy, and Kathryn; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jayse, Joel, Brock, Lukas, Silas, and Sloane; a sister, Mary Jane VonderBruegge, of Webster Grove, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the St. Louis, Missouri area and graduated from McKinley High School. She worked as a legal secretary in St. Louis for many years, with thirty of those years being with the Salvation Army. Throughout the years, Barbara was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. After retiring in 1990, she and Howard moved to Table Rock Lake and then to Belle, Missouri, where they farmed for ten years. In 2012, they moved to Lebanon to be near Karla.
Barbara was active in the Salvation Army ministry in the St. Louis area for many years. After moving to Lebanon, she became an active member of Community Baptist Church, near Lebanon. She was a wonderful Christian lady who centered her life around her faith and her family.
In her spare time she enjoyed bowling and had played on several leagues through the years. She and Howard also liked fishing in Northern Minnesota. She greatly enjoyed taking care of her home. She was a very selfless woman who loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorial Donations to Community Baptist Church may be made through the funeral home.
