Barbara Hillme (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Barbara Ellen Hillme, daughter of Joel and Beulah Peppers East, was born August 19, 1937, in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, August 17, 2013, in her home, near Phillipsburg, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days.
On November 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to Wayne D. Hillme, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Wayne, on May 16, 1976.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Debbie Smith, and her husband, Roger, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; two sons, David Hillme, of Columbia, Missouri, and Douglas Hillme, and his wife, Nancy, of Competition, Missouri; three granddaughters, Darla Lamonte, Madeleine Dill, and Elizabeth Hillme; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Walker, and Elijah; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, and then moved with her family to Lebanon when she was a young girl. She then attended Lebanon R-III Schools and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1955. After she and Wayne were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Barbara worked as a telephone operator and as a clerical worker for the Laclede County Recorder’s office for several years. Later, she worked in the home health field until retiring.
Barbara had followed the Methodist faith throughout her life and was a member of the Phillipsburg United Methodist Church.
She put her family first in everything she did and loved going shopping with her granddaughters. When her children were young, she was a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was an excellent cook and was particularly known for her delicious pies and jellies. She also liked to do canning each year, and greatly enjoyed her little dog “Princess”.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
Memorial donations to the Bear Thicket Cemetery, may be left at the funeral home.
