Barbara Jean Day's Obituary
Barbara Jean Day, daughter of Charles L. And Gracie Mae Hurt McCain, was born September 17, 1928, near Hermitage, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, December 16, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, two months, and twenty-nine days. On May 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Edward “Ed” Day, and to this union two daughters and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed, on January 9, 2003; a brother, Harrell “Bud” McCain; and a sister, Charlene Powell. Barbara is survived by two sons, Mike Day, and his wife, Debi, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Patrick Day, and his wife, Lori, of Springfield, Missouri; two daughters, Barbara Dampier, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Mary Catherine Scott, and her husband, Dave Anderson, of Marshall, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly Dampier, William Dampier, Christopher Day, and his wife, Melissa, Sarah McComas, and her husband, Shane, Jacob Day, and his wife, Brittany, Kayla, Scott, and Nick Day, and Alex, Brian, and Laura Scott; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Madalyn Ovens, of Hermitage, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Hermitage community, and graduated from Hermitage High School in the Class of 1946. After she and Ed were married, they made their home in Springfield, Joplin and Kansas City, before moving to Lebanon in 1969. She was a devoted homemaker and loving mother, and always supported Ed in his business adventures at B & D Truck Port and Restaurant, and B & D Oil and Propane Company. Barbara had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a longtime active member of First Christian Church of Lebanon. She was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class and also the Rebecca Circle. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. She liked decorating her home for the holidays and centered her life around her family. She possessed a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes and having them played on her. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memoria Park. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to Hermitage Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund may be made through the funeral home.
