Barbara Jean Jennings (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Barbara Jean Jennings, daughter of Arch and Ida Phillips Winfrey, was born November 22, 1934, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, March 22, 2012, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, and four months.
On July 2, 1959, she was united in marriage to Guy Jennings, and to this union a daughter and two sons were born. Jean and Guy shared twenty-two years, and Guy passed away on September 30, 1987.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee Winfrey; and a grandson, Robbie Franklin.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Gina Sommer, and her husband, John, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Tom Jennings, and his wife, Marianne, and Tim Jennings, and his wife, Sherry, all of Lebanon, Missouri; two step-daughters, Guylene Franklin, and Sharon Null, and her husband, Grover, Jr., all of Lebanon, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Winfrey, and his wife, Rosalie, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Lebanon area, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1952. After she and Guy were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker and mother, Jean also worked as a seamstress for the H. D. Lee Company for many years before retiring.
Jean professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Community Baptist Church, near Lebanon.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, shopping and growing beautiful flowers. She had a love for animals and was especially close to her pet Poodle, “Toby”. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
