Becky Tummons (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mrs. Bernice Rebecca 'Becky' Tummons, age 88 of Springfield, MO, formerly of Bolivar passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at The Maples Health & Rehabilitation in Springfield, MO.
Becky was born on June 21, 1925 in Lawrence County, Tennessee the daughter of R. Monroe Henson and Nola Martha (Freeman) Henson.
Becky and Charles were married on November 26, 1945 in Mobile, Alabama and returned to his hometown of Bolivar. Becky began working at the Polk County Bank in Bolivar and worked for 44 years until she retired.
Becky was a very dedicated volunteer for her church and her community, serving as a life time member of Citizen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, life time member of Friends of the Library, served on the Polk County Health Board, 50 year member of the Facts and Fiction Service Club, was elected and served on the Bolivar City Council, volunteered for the First Baptist Church in the clothes bank and prepared numerous church dinners and helped in Vacation Bible School. Becky was well known for her cooking and baking skills as well as being an excellent seamstress.
She and her late husband Charles spent many years hosting family and friends in October making apple butter. Her children and grandchildren were her treasures.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandy Ellis and husband Larry of Willard, MO; Susy Barr and husband Tom of Springfield, MO; one son, Russ Tummons of Leesville, LA, 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton and husband Chad of Springfield, MO; Julia Barr of Seoul, Korea and Cullen Barr of Murray, UT; Robert Tummons of Leesville, LA and Stephanie Clancy and husband Ryan of Kissimmee, FL. 1 great granddaughter, Madeline Hampton of Springfield, MO. A brother-in-law Bill Tummons of Bolivar and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Charity of your Choice.
