Belva Kay Skinner (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Belva Kay Rodgers-Skinner, age 68, of Buffalo, Missouri passed away March 13th, 2024. She was born March 29th, 1955 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Harold and Amy (Carmichael) Rodgers. On May 6th, 1974 she was baptized by Claude Greenfield into The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. That same day a young man by the name of Lonnie Eugene Skinner was also baptized. This young man soon became the love of her life. They were married by Brother Dave Rippee on June 29, 1974, and together enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his death on October 1st of 2020. They truly had become one at heart and she often referred to him as “Lovey”.
Granny, as she was affectionately called, enjoyed many things. She was often found crocheting, putting together puzzles, playing Monopoly and other board games with her kids and grandkids. She was also renowned for making her famous fudge, some with pecans and some without so everyone was pleased. She described herself as “A young Granny that acts like an old person“. This rings so true as she was always up for a twirl around the merry-go-round, a swing through the air, or flying over the Missouri hills.
Granny loved her church and was faithful 49 years strong. She was known for her sober advice when someone came to her for help. Throughout her years in the church, she worked as a midwife, helping many and even being there for some of her own grandchildren's births. Often she was found being a caregiver at the bedside of the sick and elderly. She was blessed with many good things in this life, and we were blessed to have her in ours.
Belva was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents, Harold and Amy Rodgers; sibling, Hershel Rodgers; sister-in-law, Jennifer Rodgers and grandson, Jagger. She is survived by her three sons, Brandon and wife Robin Skinner of Purcell, Oklahoma; Bradley and wife Mary Ann Skinner of Rocky, Oklahoma; Brian and wife Teena Skinner of Coldwater, Mississippi; one daughter, Briscia and husband Tyler Pittman of Buffalo, Missouri. Grandchildren: Shawn, Reyanne, Kayla, Tyler, Gunner, Madison, Logan, Sheri’ and husband C.J. , Christina, Daniel, Levi, Josie and husband Victor, Katie, Elisabeth, Adalynn, Aubrey, and Ember. Three great grandchildren; Nicolai, Roxy and Skyden. Siblings: Leondra and husband Dorsey Stoddard, Loyal and wife Susie Rodgers, Coeta and husband Danny Godwin, Walter and wife Fay Rodgers, Eldon and wife Beverly Rodgers, Rucilla and husband Leonard Atherton; sister-in-law, Karen Rodgers and a host of many more family and friends.
