Benny Finley (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Jack Benny Finley, son of Roy and Ila Baker Finley, was born November 24, 1941, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, June 15, 2015, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, six months, and twenty-one days.
On December 30, 1962, he was united in marriage to Jackie L. Shelby, and to this union two daughters and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a granddaughter, Cheyenne; and three brothers, Duane, Jesse, and Leroy.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Jackie, of the home; two daughters, Beverly Ducker, and her husband, Bruce, of Lynchburg, Missouri, and Linda Fullington, of Hartville, Missouri; a son, Donnie Finley, and his wife, Tammy, of Falcon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Ritchie, Patrick, William, Jonathan, Shelby, Micheal, and Treva; five great-grandchildren, Dallas, Truvin, Julius, Jazila, and Kyler; an aunt, Treva Baker, of Marshfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Competition community. After he and Jackie were married, they made their home on their farm, near Competition, and lovingly raised their family. In addition to operating his farm, Benny worked as an automobile dealer for many years. He had also worked as a truck driver, a heavy equipment operator, and done auto body work. He had been employed by Mott’s Auto Parts, and was currently the owner of the country store in Competition.
Benny was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and going to stock car races. He had even owned a stock car for awhile. He had a unique approach to everything and could fix almost anything. He was always willing to help others and was central in the life of the Competition community. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed having family time.
Benny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, nephew, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his seventy-three years.
Memorial donations to the Mount Carney Cemetery, may be left at the funeral home.
