Bernard Charles Way (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Bernard (Bernie) Charles Way went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday, May 30, at Northwood Hills Care Center in Humansville following an extended illness.Bernie was a quiet reserved man but could tell a joke as well as any comic which resulted in gut-busting laughter from those he was entertaining. He had no inhibitions to keep him from joining in the laughter. As a young man, Bernie served in the U.S. Army for seven years as a heavy equipment operator. He was stationed in South Koreas for a time and later in East Germany as well as numerous deployments in the U.S.Bernie married while overseas; a union which produced his two daughters, Sonja and Sandra.Upon his discharge from the service, he was employed in several factory jobs as well as working in the logging industry. He had a strong desire, though, to be an over-the-road truck driver and experience the freedom of the road.He enjoyed this career for many years, travelling across the contiguous forty-eight states and into Canada. Bernie retired more than ten years ago.Bernie, referred to by may as a “Big Cuddly Teddy Bear”, will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Luana (Lonnie) Buchanan and husband Olin of Muscatine, Iowa; brothers, Ted Way and wife Terri of Snyder, Texas and Don Way of Bolivar, Missouri; two nieces and their families, and several generations of cousins. The family will be holding a celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Dunnegan Bible Baptist Church at 10:00 AM followed by a luncheon. Pastor Terry Faulkner will officiate the service.
