Bernarda Reyes' Obituary
Bernarda Francisca Reyes, the daughter of Luisciano Vincente and Mary Margaret (Walker) Gonzalez was born August 20, 1928, in Orange Walk, Belize, Central America. She departed this life Friday, July 11, 2008, in St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, ten months and twenty-one days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luis Ernesto Reyes, on February 3, 1989; eight children; two brothers; and one sister. Bernarda is survived by nine children, Arlene McCormack and her husband, Jerry, and Jose Matus and his wife, Lilia, all of Seymour, Missouri, Enid Guagliardo, of Costa Mesa, California, Francisco Reyes and his wife, Maura, of Atco, New Jersey, Maria Fisher and her husband, Rolland, of Seymour, Missouri, Manuel Reyes and his wife, Sherry, of Browns Mills, New Jersey, Laura Lathem, of Springfield, Missouri, Juan Reyes and his wife, Camille, of Seymour, Missouri, and David Reyes, of Springfield, Missouri; twenty-three grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Emily Zelaya, of Orange Park, Florida; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. She was born and raised in Belize, Central America, and in 1981 she moved to the United States of America to live. She lived in New Jersey for three years before moving to the Seymour, Missouri, area in l984 to make her home. “Chita” as she was known by her family and friends, became a citizen of the United States of America in l998 and was very proud to be an “American”. Bernarda had made her profession of faith in God and was a member of the Catholic Church. She had recently attended and enjoyed the fellowship at the Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins, Missouri. She loved to cook for her family and many friends and was a wonderful seamstress. She was also a volunteer for St. John’s HospiceCare, of Springfield, Missouri. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and especially being outdoors, where she loved seeing all of God’s beautiful creations. Bernarda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and many accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00A.M on Thursday July 17, 2008 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins, Missouri. Visitation is Wednsday 6-8:00P.M at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery of Seymour, Missouri. A memorial has been established to St. John's Hospice care and donations can be left at the funeral home.
