Bert Milligan (Seymour)'s Obituary
Bert Ivory Milligan, son of Joseph and Minnie Milligan was born June 8, 1930 near Seymour, Missouri. On Tuesday morning, July 17, 2012, he departed this life surrounded by loved ones in his home near Seymour, at the age of eighty-two years, one month and nine days.
Born and raised in the area, Bert loved the Ozark mountain music and enjoyed sharing his talents of singing and playing the guitar with family and friends. He attended Seymour area schools until the 8th grade and then moved to California in search of work. There he met and married Helen Lucille Prewitt and to this union one son and one daughter were born. The family moved back to the area and settled down on their farm near Seymour.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Buck, Dwight, Kenneth, and his sisters Ethel, Wavea, Elsie and Vergie.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years Helen Milligan of the home; his son Carl Milligan of the home; his daughter Connie Carriger and husband Chester of Hartville, Missouri; his grandchildren and their children, Jake , Tanya, Twayna and husband Keith and their children MiKaela and Kileigh; Jan and her husband Jerry and their children Monique, Gaige, Gannan, Cholie, Halen; Jerry and Annie and their children Darien, Dakota, Denton, Camie and Kaylee; Melissa Starky and her husband Steven and their children Jailenn and Calvin; Steven and Melissa and their children Sierra, Isaac, and Haleigh; his brother Dempsey Milligan and wife Darlene of the state of Colorado; and his sister Korena Sanders and husband Paul of the state of Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.
He was a faithful member of the Baptist faith and served his Lord through his works, his worship and his caring nature. He was a 3rd degree Master Mason. His great sense of humor and easy nature made Bert a great friend. He took time for people and enjoyed visiting with friends around town. He was at his happiest surrounded by his grandchildren and adored being a great-grandfather. Bert was a man who worked hard, laughed often and loved well. Music, family and friends, three words to sum up the heart of Bert and the legacy he leaves behind.
Bert Ivory Milligan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and many accomplishments and will forever cherish the memories he created for his family, and all those who knew and loved him.
