Berthenia Light (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Berthenia Maye Light, daughter of Charley Thomas and Lillie Mae Bingham Wilson, was born January 16, 1926, near Brownfield, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, May 8, 2011, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, three months, and twenty-two days.
On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Finis L. Light, and to this union two daughters and four sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, MaKayla Light; three brothers, Dewey, Glennis, and Rev. Curtis Wilson; and a sister, Opal Munholland.
Berthenia is survived by her husband, Finis, of the home; two daughters, Pamela Davis, and her husband, Dean, and Kathy Rogers, and her husband, Bobby, all of Lebanon, Missouri; four sons, Billy Light, and his wife, Esther, Kenny Light, Steve Light, and his wife, Beverly, and Mike Light, all of Lebanon, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Dicie Decker, and Edna Lewis, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Brownfield community, and then lived most of her life in the Lebanon area. After she and Finis were married, they made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Berthenia also worked as a seamstress for the Rice Stix Factory, and continued with the H. D. Lee Company for over twenty-five years before retiring. Later, she worked for Oxford Health Care for a few years.
Berthenia was saved at an early age, and was a member of Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She had more recently been a member of Unity Freewill Baptist Church.
She enjoyed raising a garden each year, and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends. She always enjoyed having her grandchildren around her and spending time with her family.
Berthenia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
