Bessie "Katy" Kathleen Owens (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Bessie Kathleen (Loudermilk) Owens was born January 12,1926, in Long Lane, Missouri. She was the second of five children born to Floyd Loudermilk and Martha (Dull) Loudermilk. She passed away November 3, 2022, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center. She was at the time of her passing 96 Years, nine months, and 22 days of age. Katy (the name she preferred over Bessie) attended a number of schools growing up. She didn’t go beyond the 8th grade but achieved a GED at the age of 55 in 1981.
Katie was united in marriage to William Everett Owens on May 23, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri. To this union were born two children, Larry Everett, and Carol Jean. She was a homemaker with many skills including gardening, canning, and quilting. She was an accomplished seamstress for many years and had quite a collection of blue ribbons from the Dallas County Fair. Katy attended church in Buffalo at the Free Will Baptist Church for many years and later attended Calvary Chapel until her health prevented her going.
Katy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Margaret; and two brothers, Claude and Paul. She is survived by her son, Larry Owens of Sleeper, Missouri; daughter, Carol Banks and husband Mike of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Jerry Owens and wife Julia, Jennifer Dampier and husband Andy, Amy Owens and Jim Owens; great-grandchildren, Shelby Owens, Emily Wise and husband Preston, and Jacob Sharp; her first great-great-grandchild, Kellie Wise; two sisters, Jeanie Holland and Carolyn Patterson, both of Buffalo, Missouri; two step-grandsons; numerous step-great grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo, Missouri with Dr. Doug Earls officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Macedonia Cemetery located in Buffalo, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made to the American Cancer Society.
