Betsy Alane Oglesbee (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Betsy Alane Oglesbee, daughter of Neal and Sarah (Neill) Oglesbee, was born June 3, 1970, in Warrensburg, Missouri, and departed this life on July 28, 2021, in Branson, Missouri.
Betsy graduated from Buffalo High School in 1988 and enrolled in Central Methodist College. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies in 1992, Betsy spent several years working in ministry to children and young adults in the United Methodist Church. She then worked in administrative roles in health care and manufacturing.
Betsy entered the graduate program in school counseling at Missouri State University, graduating with a Master of Science in 2001. For the past twenty years, she worked as a school counselor in Southwest Missouri schools. At the time of her passing, she was a high school counselor at Hollister High School.
Betsy loved to travel, and her most memorable trips included visits to Israel and Palestine, Scotland, and the Grand Canyon in the company of family and dear friends. She was a dedicated Civil War enthusiast who trekked to numerous sites. She also logged hundreds of volunteer hours at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year.
Betsy was a deeply devoted and, frankly, fun aunt. She happily spent hours reading books, baking, and playing imaginative games with her beloved nieces.
Betsy was preceded in death be her grandparents, Marion & Nellie (King) Oglesbee and Lee & Minnie (Milam) Neill; her aunt, Nancy (Null) Tidwell; and uncle, Richard Oglesbee. She is survived by her parents, Neal and Sarah Oglesbee; her sisters, Jenny Griffith & husband Bok Griffith, Lee Ella Oglesbee & husband Case Wrenn, and Mary Hunt & husband Todd Hunt; and her nieces, Caroline and Lydia Hunt. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Frederick Zahn officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, July 30 from 7 - 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Battlefield Trust.
