Betty Andrews (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Betty Jean (Stewart) Andrews, age 74, passed away May 7, 2020 in Independence MO. She was born May 15, 1945.
Betty Jean moved from her hometown of Perry, Iowa with her mother, stepfather and maternal grandmother to Buffalo, Missouri in 1957. She married Larry John Andrews in 1962, and they made their home in Dallas County until 1992. They had two children, Jacqueline Lea, born in 1963 and Russell Thomas, born in 1967.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Wilbur Russel Stewart and Esther (Delong) Stewart Slocum; her husband, Larry; and her brother, Richard Paul Stewart.
Betty’s surviving family includes her sister, Kay Engelke; a daughter, Jackie (Andrews) Peltier Brunell; a son, Russell Andrews; two grandsons Anthony Peltier and Thomas Peltier.
She was a graduate of Buffalo High School and a member of the United Methodist Church. She was a devoted, hard-working wife, mother and homemaker. After her husband’s death in 1991 she moved to the Kansas City, Missouri area where she worked for the MidContinent Public Library Service, first as a page/clerk then as a technical processor in the InterLibrary Loan Department. She retired in 2011.
Betty was faithful to set aside portions of her summers to travel with each of her grandsons. Although these included some air and train travel, they were primarily “road trips” with the goal of seeing as many of these United States as possible. She treasured her time with each of them, enjoying many sights and adventures.
She had a great passion for genealogical research and was a life member of both the Clan Stewart Society of America and the Ripley County Indiana Historical Society. She successfully traced the ancestry of her own family and her husband, Larry’s, to the early 18th century. She enjoyed counted cross-stitch, making beautiful gifts for her loved ones and had her work displayed at her local library. She was knowledgeable about structural building and sat on several committees of the Hidden Valley Club, Independence MO including Architectural Control and Beautification.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center, St Louis MO, where she received excellent care for the duration of her battle with multiple melanoma, or the Dallas County (MO) library to honor her love of reading which she and Larry instilled in their children and grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be Saturday, June 6, 2020 in the Memorial Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo, Missouri
