Betty Basnett (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Betty, daughter of Clover & Joe Mapes, was born Jan 18, 1932 in Slick,
Oklahoma. Her mother died when she was 18 months old, leaving Betty
and her two sisters, 3 years and 5 years of age. Betty’s Christian
Grandmother Mapes took all three girls and raised them until they were
young adults.
Betty departed this life on September 14, 2022 at the age of 90.
On March 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norman Lee Basnett
and to this union one son (David) and two daughters (Patricia and Allison)
were born. Betty and Norman were married for 52 happy years and
enjoyed raising their children.
They lived in California for four years while Norman served in the USAF. For the next fifteen years, Norman was employed by Kaneb Pipeline Company and the family moved to Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota. In 1970, Norman left Kaneb and the family moved to their Basnett Family Farm in Lebanon, Missouri. They were charter members of Heritage Baptist Temple and lived in Lebanon for 28 years.
During their retirement years, they moved to Yuma, AZ and enjoyed the sunny winter weather. They also became close friends with many other couples. They enjoyed travelling away from Yuma in the hot summers to visit their children and friends in other parts of the US. In 2003, they were in Yuma when Norman suffered a heart attack and passed on to be with The Lord.
Betty continued to live in their home in Yuma. A good friend, who also sang in the church choir with Betty, introduced her to a Christian man, Buzz Bosone. Buzz was from Washington State and had recently lost his wife of 54 years. Their friendship started as a sympathy friendship and later ended in a marriage. They became full time travelers in their motor home, enjoyed two motor home travel clubs, Yuma in the winters and lots of visits to the kids.
Betty and Buzz made their final motor home trip to Yuma in the winter of 2008 and, upon arriving back in Anacortes, they moved into a home. In the following years, Betty continued her visits to her children by flying. In 2015, Buzz was involved in an accident that left him incapacitated. Betty moved into the home of her daughter, Allison, where for six years she was loved and cared for by Allison and her family. As she neared the age of 90, she required more care and moved into the Wyndham Residence Facility.
Betty made her profession of Faith in Christ Jesus at the age of seven. She spent her life as a devoted wife with two wonderful Christian husbands. She will be remembered for the Gospel Solos she sang at the churches she attended and as a member of her church choirs. She loved people and always set an example of a happy spirit through prayer and encouraging words. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Betty is survived by one son, David Basnett and family of Destin, Florida and two daughters, Patricia Brewer and family of The Woodlands, Texas and Allison Burdick and family of Arroyo Grande, California; two step-children, Ann Longinotti of Orcas Island, Washington and Bobby Bosone of Anacortes, Washington; seven loving grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and one brother, Clyde Mapes of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Arrangements will be announced by Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon, MO.
