Betty Davis' Obituary
Betty Jewell Napier Davis, daughter of George Columbus and Alma Elizabeth Hyder Napier, was born July 30, 1931, near Seymour, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, August 20, 2006, in her home, near Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-five years and twenty-one days after a short illness. On November 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Howard Lee Davis and together they have shared the last fifty-nine years. To this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Goldie Napier; and two brothers, Otis and Olen Napier. Betty is survived by her husband, Howard, of the home; two daughters, Velda Colleen Holcomb, and her husband, Glen, of Seymour, Missouri, and Marsha Cleo Glenn, and her husband, John, of Strafford, Missouri; two sons, Randy Lee Davis, and his wife, Becky, of Norwood, Missouri, and Gary Howard Davis, and his wife, Gale, of Hartville, Missouri; dearly loved by her nine grandchildren, Sonya Gray, Carl Splain, Denise Davis, Michelle Prock, Scott Glenn, Jolene Habet, Jason Davis, Amber Gray, and Melanie Davis; fifteen great-grandchildren, Joshua, Douglas, Emily, Braden, Candice, Carmen, Dominick, Dylan, Connor, Duncan, Hunter, Hesston, Liam, Trinnity, and Kellar; four brothers, Howard Napier, of Lexington, Missouri, Gene Napier, of Seymour, Missouri, Bill Napier, and his wife, Shirley, of Hartville, Missouri, and Jim Napier, and his wife, Joyce, of Seymour, Missouri; four sisters, Bertha Bennett, of Macomb, Missouri, Patsy Glenn, of Ozark, Missouri, Dorothy Alexander, and her husband, Leroy, of Aurora, Missouri, and Geneva Johnson, of Seymour, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked many years on the family farm, working fields, milking cows, gardening, and never ending household chores. Betty was best known for her cooking, there was never a hired or helping hand that went away hungry. Her family especially enjoyed her Sunday fried chicken dinners and homemade pies and cobblers. She also worked alongside Howard in his ministry the past fifty-six years, as a constant source of encouragement and inspiration. They especially enjoyed gospel singing. Betty was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren for her soft-spoken nature, words of encouragement, and devotion to her family. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. A memorial to Antioch Cemetery or the American Cancer Society may be made through the funeral home.
