Betty Rose Green (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Betty Rose Green, daughter of Roy and Wanita Shoemate Baker, was born February 17, 1923, in Kansas City, Kansas. She departed this life Friday, April 19, 2013, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, two months, and two days.
Early in her life she was united in marriage to William Arthur, and to this union two daughters, Cathy and Donna, were born.
On September 27, 1969, she was united in marriage to Jesse Murl Green, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Clarence Hair; a brother, Junior Hair; and a sister, Peggy Lewis.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Bethurem, of Springfield, Missouri, Cathy Cumper, of Olathe, Kansas, and Donna Shockley-Richardson, and her husband, Bob, of Camdenton, Missouri; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Hair, and his wife, Carolyn, of Liberty, Missouri, and Laverne Hair, of Pace, Florida; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Kansas and attended school in Burlington, Kansas. For a time she worked for the telephone company in Kansas City, Kansas, and then earned her cosmetology license and worked in a beauty shop. She moved to Chanute, Kansas, where she met and married William. They soon moved to Missouri and opened Arthur’s Resort on the Lake of the Ozarks. Betty not only helped in the operation of the resort, but also operated a beauty shop there for several years. She then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for a few years, where she worked in a dental office and also at Veasey Drug Store. After moving to Rockport, Texas, she met her future husband, Murl, while working as a bookkeeper for Floyd’s Restaurants. She later opened Anthony’s Beauty Shop which she operated until Murl’s injury. In the mid 1990’s, she and Murl moved to Lebanon, Missouri, to be nearer family.
Betty had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon.
In her spare time she greatly enjoyed quilting, and was a member of a Quilting Guild in Springfield and in Lebanon. She also liked doing embroidery projects and sewing. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
