Betty Hayes' Obituary
Loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma slipped away suddenly and peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on March 29, 2009 at the age of eighty-five years, two months, and fifteen days. Betty was born January 14, 1924 at Vinton, Ohio to Cecil and Lizzie (Coffee) Caton.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Robert (Bob) Hayes, of the home; two sons, David Hayes, of Spokane, Washington, and Jerry Hayes, and his wife, Mary, of St. Roberts, Missouri; two grandchildren, Rob Hayes and Kenya Chute, both of Spokane, Washington; two step-grandchildren, Melissa Ingraham, of St. Roberts, Missouri, and Jason Ingraham, of Somerset, Michigan; three great-grandchildren, Remington, Colten, and Ashlynn Chute; two sisters, Dorothy Deemer, of Jackson, Ohio, and Janet Ladd, of Pickerington, Ohio; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Olive Hayes; five sisters, Ruby Riegal, Carrie Spires, Addie Denny, Helen Stephenson, and Bonnie Johnston; and two brothers, Raymond and Glenn Caton.
Betty was a very active member of the Seymour Church of God, and worked as a volunteer for many years at a church charity for families in need. She moved from Jackson, Ohio to Missouri in 1966, and to her final home in Fordland in 1967. She enjoyed home arts and crafting, fishing and gardening, especially flowers.
“Momma Betty” as she was known by several close friends, will be severely missed for her loving kindness, amazing sense of humor, and willingness to take anyone needing help under her wings.
“May God give you the rest and reward that you so richly deserve. We will love you always”
Services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 2, 2009 in Holman-Howe Chapel of Seymour with burial in Fordland Cemetery, in Fordland, Missouri. Visitation will be 7-8 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home.
