Betty Hixson's Obituary
Betty Ann Hixson, daughter of Charles William and Lura Marie McCullou Wedderstrand, was born May 27, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas. She departed this life Wednesday, July 11, 2007, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-four years, one month, and fourteen days. On August 29, 1972, she was united in marriage to William Charles “Bill” Hixson and together they shared the last thirty-four years. Her parents, and a granddaughter, Ashley Hixson, preceded her in death. Betty is survived by her husband, Bill, of the home; three sons, Lance Hixson, and his wife, Jeanine, and Chris Hixson, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Paul Hixson, and his wife, Roberta, of the State of New Hampshire; a daughter, Angelica Hixson, of the State of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Courtney Hixson, Lance Hixson, Jr., Bree-anna Hixson, Kirstin Hixson, Bohden Reagan, Chris Saville, Kristi Gaynor, and Daniel Hixson; two sisters, Charlene Belshi, of Olathe, Kansas, and Wilma Jean Fortner, of Independence, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Kansas City, Kansas area, and was graduated from high school in the Class of 1961. After she and Bill were married, they made their home in Kansas City, Kansas, where they lovingly raised their children. Betty was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked as a dispatcher for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and then the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department for several years. During her years with the sheriff’s department, she was the first woman to be recognized by the Department of Justice and the President of the United States for electronically tracking a convicted felon on the run and seeing that he was brought back to Kansas. In 1995, she and Bill moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and made their home. Since coming to the Lebanon community, Betty had been a member of the Lebanon Rural Fire District. She enjoyed being outdoors where she liked watching birds and experiencing nature. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Memorials may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
