Betty Holiman (Seymour)'s Obituary
Betty Jane Holiman, Master Sergeant (Ret.), daughter of William Hobert and Eula Birchie (Denney) Holiman was born November 5, 1944 in Seymour, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, March 3, 2011 in ManorCare in Springfield, Missouri at the age of sixty-six years, three months and twenty-six days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Billie Joe Holiman; a sister, Veda Briley; and a brother-in-law, Jim Goss.
Betty is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Goss, of Seymour, Missouri; a brother, Charles Holiman and his wife, Janet, of Springfield, Missouri; two nephews, Mark Briley and his wife, Rhonda, of Joplin, Missouri and Billie Holiman, of Seymour, Missouri; six nieces, Terri Weisensee and her husband, Rich, of Joplin, Missouri, Tina Sandstrom and her husband, Jon, of Seymour, Missouri, Linda Lansdown and her husband, Virgil, and Julie Spriggs and her husband, Fred, all of Fordland, Missouri, Kelly Anderson and her husband, Brad, of Springfield, Missouri, and Stacey Welker and her husband, Joie, of Seymour, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Jerry Briley, of Joplin, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sharon Holiman, of Springfield, Missouri; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; her military friends and families; and her two loving pets and companions, Oscar and Harleigh.
She grew up in Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1962, and then worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Seymour. In 1966 she joined the United States Army and served her country faithfully until 1992. She was very proud to be an American and to have served as a WAC with the military for 26 years. Betty had also received her Licensed Practical Nurse accreditation and had worked in clinics in Springfield and also with the United States Postal Service in Springfield until suffering a stroke and recently battling cancer.
Betty was a kind and generous lady who was happy to live in the United States. She loved to travel and spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She took part in the military organizations, U.S. Army Women’s Foundation and Women in the Military Service for America.
Betty was a loving sister, aunt, great-aunt, sister-in-law, and was a caring friend and neighbor. We celebrate her life and many accomplishments and will cherish all the wonderful memories she has created for those who knew and loved her.
