Betty Jo Owens (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Betty Jo Owens, daughter of the late Clinton Gustaf and Ruby Faye (Cox) Anderson, was born on May 31, 1934 in Lee’s Summit, MO and departed this life on December 26, 2020 in Springfield, MO. At the time of her passing she was 86 years, six months, and 25 days of age.
Betty was reared and attended school in Lee’s Summit. After graduating High School, she was united in marriage to Jess Ray Owens on February 14, 1953 and to this union three children were born, two of whom survive her. They moved to Kansas City where she worked as a Bookkeeper for an accounting firm. After her children were born, she took a job typing cookbooks from home. She taught her children to proofread for her, and they retained that skill throughout their lives. Jess and Betty loved to drag race in their younger years and play in Country Western Bands in their later years. She was a concert pianist taught herself how to play the guitar. She was an excellent typist and won the award for being the fastest typist in Missouri her senior year of High School. Betty was also an excellent cook and was well known for her rolls. Above all, Betty was a devote Christian and loved telling anyone who would listen about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She would often be found reading her bible with highlighter in hand, or with her head bowed in prayer.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Owens and one brother, Bobby Dale Anderson. She is survived by her son, Mike & wife Debby Owens of Buffalo, MO; her daughter, Rhae Lynne & husband Wayne Cowan of Braymer, MO; three grandchildren, Jess & wife Krystal Kampe, Joe & wife Kellie Kampe, and Brad Cowan; and nine great-grandchildren, Lane Kampe, Kaitlynn & husband Jacob Marchand; Connor Kampe, Blake Kampe, Sarah Klapp, Jazmine Klapp, Mercedes Kampe, Alexis Kampe, and Shelby Kampe. She also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Bro. Dusty Armstrong officiating. Escorts will be Jess Kampe, Joe Kampe, Lane Kampe, Connor Kampe, Blake Kampe, and Brad Cowan. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Relay For Life.
