Betty J. Showler (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Betty Jean Showler, daughter of David and Gladys Jones Marcum, was born November 7, 1928, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, July 11, 2021, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, eight months, and four days.
On July 9, 1949, she was united in marriage to James Wayne Showler, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne, on December 24, 1992; two brothers, David Marcum, Jr., and Dwain Marcum; two sisters, Vivian Dinsmore, and Violet Stagg; and two sisters-in-law, Cora Marcum, and Betty Marcum.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Stubblefield, and her husband, Kevin, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Sandra Geissler, and her husband, George, of Glendale, Arizona; a son, Jim Showler, and his wife, Bonnie, of Lebanon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Christine McElhaney, Erica Ward , Derek Showler, Andrew Stubblefield, Trevor Stubblefield, Lisa Lindesmith, and Michelle Golden; five great-grandchildren, Carlee McElhaney, Casen McElhaney, Bekette Ward, Everest Dalton Quartz, and Olivia Lindesmith; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She lived her entire life in Laclede County, and received her education there. After she and Wayne were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their children. Betty was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked for the H. D. Lee Company for many years.
Betty was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and served in all phases of church work through the years. She was a member of the Women of Grace Sunday School Class and also helped with Vacation Bible School for several years. She served on the hospitality committee and helped with lots of activities in that capacity.
Betty lovingly cared for her husband, Wayne, during his illness. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting dolls and angels and liked to fish when she was younger. She received the greatest joy from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which she loved dearly.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and was a caring friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
A memorial to the Hillcrest Baptist Church has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
