Beulah Short's Obituary
Beulah Olive Coday Short was born May 18, 1916 and departed this life at 3:50 p.m., June 1, 2010 on the farm seven miles North of Mansfield where she was born and spent 93 of her 94 years.
She was the only daughter of Lewis Jefferson and Della Josephine Smith Coday. She attended Fagan Rural School where she completed all eight grades, and since she couldn’t attend high school, she took grades seven and eight again. Beulah attended Wolf Creek Church her entire life, giving her heart to God at an early age and living a faithful dedicated life until her passing.
As a young lady, she was introduced to a handsome young man named George Lincoln Short whom she married on August 3, 1940. The only time they spent apart was from November 13, 1944 to November 10, 1945 while George served in the Army. They established a farming operation on land adjacent to the Coday homestead, and Beulah continued to run cattle on the farm for several years after her husband passed away. They also raised a family of three children on that farm, a son, Jim, and two daughters, Wilda and Lecia. Beulah dedicated her life to raising them and instilling her values and faith in their lives. They, along with their families, were her hobby, her joy, and her strength, especially in the last few months as her health declined.
Beulah was elected Gasconade Township Tax Collector, serving the township residents for many years with courtesy and integrity. She loved to garden, sew, quilt, and cook. But her greatest accomplishment was her dedication to her family.
Beulah was preceded in death by her father, Jeff, her mother, Josie, and her husband, George.
She is survived by her children, Jim and wife Jeri, of Buffalo, Wilda and husband Bob, of Mansfield, and Lecia of the home; grandchildren, Travis Watterson and wife Crystal, Tiffany Gray and husband Aaron, Tawna Cuzzort and husband Zack, Alison Wilson and husband Chris, Jeffrey Short and wife Erica; and six great-grandchildren, Koby Watterson, Jacob, Kile and Brock Gray, and Greenlee and Brack Cuzzort; along with two very special cousins, Stan and Van Coday. She also leaves many other family and friends who will remember her fondly and miss her.
Her last few years, and especially the last few months, Beulah suffered from her various injuries, but she would never complain. She truly lived up to the nickname her closest family often used—Beautiful. But whether she was Beulah to her friends, Momma to her kids, Bujie to her husband and grandchildren, or Granny Boo to her great-grandkids, her life was a living example of the beatitudes of meekness, peace, mercy, righteousness and purity of heart, and she is now reaping the blessings God promised.
